Disability Statement

and you could attend one of our Advice evenings held in November and March. This will give you an opportunity to view the building, find out more about the courses and discuss possible support needs on an individual basis. The College also holds INFORMATION DAYS throughout the year.
If you are unable to attend then you can make an appointment with a member of the Additional Support Team to discuss your individual needs.

How do I enrol?
When you complete an application form you will have identified your course and your interest in support. This information will be passed to the Additional Support Team.
You will be given the opportunity to discuss your support needs on an individual basis with a member of the Support Team.
You may also be called for an interview with your Subject Course Tutor.
Your Individualised Learning Agreement (ISLA) describes the information and nature of support you can expect from the College.
Are there experienced staff to help me?
Our Additional Support Team has wide experience in working with students with a range of diverse needs.
For example:
- Autism
- Asperger’s Syndrome
- ADHD/ADD
- Dyscalculia
- Dyslexia
- Dyspraxia
- Hearing Impairment
- Mental Health
- Medical e.g. diabetes, epilepsy etc
- Physical Disabilities
- Visual Impairment

In order to ensure that you receive the appropriate support to help you succeed, you will be allocated an Additional Support Tutor and an individual additional support plan will be completed as soon as possible.
If we need to release any information to other staff the Additional Support Co-ordinator will request permission from you. It may be necessary to do this in order to ensure that the appropriate support is put in place.
Individual tutorials are provided in the Additional Support Suite. The team is responsible for organising specialist examination arrangements where appropriate.
The College has a number of experienced support workers to meet your individual needs.
Do you have specialist equipment?
The College has a wide range of equipment to support learning as listed below, the loan of which can be discussed with the Additional Support tutors.

- Braille embosser
- voice activated software
- radio microphones
- magnifying filter screens
- spellcheckers
- dictaphones
- scanners
- loop systems
- CCTVs
In addition, the Additional Support Technician is available every morning in the Additional Support Suite.
Can you help with transport?
You may be eligible for free transport if you:
- are a full-time student
- live three miles or over from Yale
- are under 19 years old
If you are under 19 and require help with transport on special needs grounds you will need to contact your Local Education Authority.
How much will I have to pay?
If you are a full time student your fees will be paid for you although there is a £20 registration fee. For part-time students there are a number of concessions for those
- registered unemployed
- in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance
- in receipt of Income Support
- Registered Disabled
- in receipt of Incapacity Benefit
- under 19 on 1st August and unwaged
- over 60 at enrolment and unwaged

What will happen if I am not happy with the level of support I am getting?
We hope that any issue can be sorted out quickly by talking to a member of the Additional Support Team. If you are still not happy you may follow the College Complaints Guidelines found in your Student Handbook.
