17/05/2010
Yale College’s AS Level and Welsh Baccalaureate student Michaela Blackwell has won a top prize in the first ever Cambridge University Student Union Photo-diary Competition.
Michael was picked as top entrant for Cambridge University’s innovative diary challenge when she visited the highly regarded higher education establishment in February. Participating in their Students’ Union shadowing scheme, Michaela joined in when the visiting students were asked to submit five photographs.
Seeking individuality, enthusiasm and pictures that told a story, the team of judges selected three best entrants which included Michaela Blackwell from Yale College, to write captions to go their photos.
The chief judge, Sir Cam, awarded the top prize to Michaela whose photo "Going Home" won the accolade of best overall image in the competition. A wonderfully atmospheric shot, it shows a group of departing sixth-formers trundling their cases along Trinity Street with the winter sun casting long shadows across the paving stones.
