Fun Day at Yale College, Bersham Road
28/04/2010
Yale College students “Took one for the Team’ at their Bersham Road campus when they organised fun activities in aid of Hope House and Nightingale House Hospices for their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.
As part of their Team Enterprise unit, full time carpentry and joinery (Foundation Construction Award) learners made sure active skills were well and truly tested at their Fun Day. There was stilt racing and innovative target practice as the students arranged some unusual goal posts. A large display board was prepared and brave volunteers invited to peep through a hole as enterprising students encouraged fun day visitors to pay a fee for the privilege of shooting footballs at the selected targets.
“The lads really enjoyed planning and running the event,” said Rob Hill, carpentry and joinery lecturer at Yale College, “the Welsh Baccalaureate really gives them a chance to highlight their entrepreneurial skills.”
In addition to lots of speed and target practice, the students worked hard organising a raffle and cake stall, held an interesting charity ‘leg wax’ and a sponsored ‘8 mile log carry’. Estimated proceeds raised from the day will amount to towards £250 for Hope House and Nightingale House Hospices.
