Young acting talents Charlotte and Pip are Worldclass

07/08/2009

Two Wrexham actresses have been judged the best in the country in a UK competition, which was hotly contested by schools and colleges up and down the country.Charlotte Knowles & Pip Johnson

The talented Yale performing arts students Charlotte Knowles and Pip Johnson acted in front of judges from the BBC and Radio 4 in the Worldskills UK Acting Finals, held recently in Stockport. Only 10 schools went through to the final and Charlotte came out at the very top winning gold, while Pip shone with silver.

“We’re really proud of Charlotte and Pip who are outstanding young actresses! They both achieved triple distinctions on their course and have a bright future ahead of them” commented lecturer Frazer Ormondroyd.

“It was fantastic,” said Pip, 18, who starts a three year course at Cambridge Performing Arts College in September. “Only ten schools went through and we both won from Yale.”

Over the summer Pip has embarked on a number of film projects and starts filming for a BBC 3 production called the Fun Factory later this month. “I recommend Yale for performing arts – they really push you in all areas.” She says.

Charlotte aged 18 has applied to two well known theatre companies for next year: the Bristol Old Vic and Rose Broomford in London and hopes to go into film and TV. She agrees wholeheartedly with Pip about the course at Yale. “They push you to the same level as someone from an accredited drama school.”

Theatre and film is in the family for Charlotte whose mum Tracy Knowles runs the Very Nice Production Company. With voluntary 30 members, the company raises money for Hope House.

As a gold winner, charlotte now joins the UK Worldskills team which is due to compete in Calgary against other teams from across the world in 2011.

She says, “It was an exciting experience and I’m looking forward to going to Canada with the UK team.”
