INTRODUCTION
The Level 3 NVQ in Horse Care is suitable for those who wish to progress to the position of Yard Manager. This qualification allows you to perform a wide range of more complex tasks, such as monitoring and adjusting diet for horses, monitoring health care and supervising the work of others.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no specific entry requirements for this course although candidates will need equine experience, a suitable degree of maturity as well as an appropriate level of basic skills in numeracy and literacy.
Please note Level 3 NVQ is a full-time course only.
COURSE CONTENT
Core Units:
Unit 301 Plan and monitor routine care
Unit 302 Promote and maintain the health and well-being of the horse
Unit 303 Prepare horses for work
Unit 304 Maintain health and well-being of horses during transportation
Unit 305 Maintain activities to meet requirements (METO, Unit A1)
Unit 306 Ensure own actions reduce risks to health & safety (Employment NTO, Unit A)

Unit 312 Contribute to getting a mare in foal and maintain stud documentation

Unit 315 Work horses to improve fitness
Unit 322 Prepare for coaching sessions (SPRITO)
Unit 323 Conduct coaching sessions (SPRITO)
Group H - Competition Option
Unit 314 Contribute to the design & implementation of a work program for horses
Unit 324 Provide specialist care of a performance horse
ASSESSMENT
The qualification is assessed by continual work based assessment with supporting underpinning knowledge to confirm understanding, alongside a completion of a portfolio.

Full-time students do not pay course or examination entry fees, except in some cases when there are examination re-sits. Part-time students pay course fees, which are displayed in College publications or are obtainable from Admissions, and examination entry and / or registration fees.
