Level 2 NVQ in Horse Care (City and Guilds NPTC)

INTRODUCTION
The NVQ Level 2 Horse Care is similar to the Level 1, it covers the basic skills of working with horses in the equine sector, but a greater depth of knowledge and more practical experience and responsibility are required in order to fulfil the Awarding Body criteria.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no specific entry requirements for this course although candidates will need equine experience, a suitable degree of maturity as well as an appropriate level of basic skills in numeracy and literacy.

COURSE CONTENT
Core Units: 

Unit 201                 Prepare and clean stables

Unit 202                 Maintain the health and well being of horses

Unit 203                 Prepare horses for use

Unit 204                 Prepare and maintain horses on grazing land

Unit 205                 Prepare and provide non-ridden exercise and aftercare

Unit 206                 Load and unload horses under supervision

Unit 207                 Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety (Employment NTO, Unit A)

Unit 208                 Maintain effective working relationships

 

Optional Units:

The candidate must achieve one of these units:

                                                               

Unit 210                Assist with reproduction, parturition care and young stock

Unit 211                 Exercise horses under supervision

Unit 213                Ride schooled horse under supervision

Unit 215                Assist with leading a trek

Unit 216                Assist with specialist care of the performance horse

Unit 217                 Assist with riders with special needs

ASSESSMENT
The qualification is assessed by continual work based assessment with supporting underpinning knowledge to confirm understanding, alongside a completion of a portfolio.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
These qualifications are an ideal base for employment and progression within the Horse Industry.

 

Course Fees

Full-time students do not pay course or examination entry fees, except in some cases when there are examination re-sits. Part-time students pay course fees, which are displayed in College publications or are obtainable from Admissions, and examination entry and / or registration fees.
