INTRODUCTION
The candidate must be capable of taking sole charge of a group of horses of various types in stables and at grass. They must be an educated rider capable of training and improving horses in their work on the flat, over fences and on the lunge.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
BHS Horse Knowledge, Care and Riding Stage 3 or NVQ Level 3 or (with Riding/Schooling Horses unit)

 

COURSE CONTENT
Stable Management:

Experience and therefore efficiency should be shown.  Candidates will show their ability of taking charge of and looking after a number of horses and ponies in a variety of situations, ensuring that yard and fields are safe and in good order.  Managing staff/students and demonstrating an all round knowledge of business matters relating to the equine industry.  

Riding:

Candidates to have the ability to ride on the flat and over fences effectively and with style.  Assess horse's performance.  Ability to ride and train horses for Elementary Dressage Tests, Novice Horse Trails and Newcomers Showjumping competitions.

 

ASSESSMENT
Assessment is through examination at a BHS approved exam centre.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
This qualification is an ideal base for employment and progression within the horse industry.

Course Fees

Full-time students do not pay course or examination entry fees, except in some cases when there are examination re-sits. Part-time students pay course fees, which are displayed in College publications or are obtainable from Admissions, and examination entry and / or registration fees.
