INTRODUCTION
The candidates must understand the general management and requirements of horses for their health and well being. Working under regular but not constant supervision, the candidate should be able to carry out the care of stabled and grass kept horses during all seasons of the year. He/she must have an understanding of how the horse adjusts his balance to carry a rider. The candidate must be capable of riding a quiet, experienced horse or pony in the countryside and on the public highway as well as in a manege, or indoor school.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
BHS Horse Knowledge, Care and Riding Stage 1 or NVQ Level 2 or 3 ( with Riding/Schooling Horses unit) and Riding and Road Safety Test.
COURSE CONTENT
As Stage 1 with the addition of Lungeing, Shoeing, Clipping & Trimming, Anatomy & Physiology, Fittening, General Knowledge, Watering & feeding. Riding on the flat and over poles, candidates are required to demonstrate the ability to ride a quite experienced horse or pony in an enclosed space, without assistance.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is through examination at a British Horse Society approved exam centre.

Full-time students do not pay course or examination entry fees, except in some cases when there are examination re-sits. Part-time students pay course fees, which are displayed in College publications or are obtainable from Admissions, and examination entry and / or registration fees.
