INTRODUCTION

This qualification may be more suitable to you if you wish to take the Level 2 NVQ in Horse Care but do not have the experience, or are not employed in an appropriate role. It is designed to contribute towards the knowledge and understanding for the NVQ in Horse Care while containing additional skills and knowledge which goes beyond the scope of the Awarding Body criteria.

 

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no specific entry requirements for this course although this course will suit the more academic learner. Candidates will need equine experience, as well as an appropriate level of basic skills in numeracy and literacy.

 COURSE CONTENT

 

Core Units:

Unit 221                 Horse health and well-being

Unit 222                 Horse care

Unit 223                 Feeding & watering horses

Unit 224                 Horse tack & clothing

Unit 225                 Work related experience in the Land-based

Unit 226                 Safe working with and around horses

 

Optional Units:

The candidate must achieve five of these units:

Unit 227                 Introduction to animal science

Unit 228                 Small business practice in Land-based

Unit 229                 Care of the horse at grass

Unit 231                 Riding horses

Unit 232                 Riding & exercising horses

Unit 233                 Introduction to ground schooling

Unit 234                 Competition horse grooming

Unit 235                 Equine stud practice

Unit 236                 Equestrian estate skills

 

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is by multiple choice on-line test, written assignments and observation of practical tasks. Candidates, who achieve competence in all specified units of a given level, will receive the appropriate National Certificate.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This qualification is designed for candidates who wish for career progression into or within the sector.

Course Fees

Full-time students do not pay course or examination entry fees, except in some cases when there are examination re-sits. Part-time students pay course fees, which are displayed in College publications or are obtainable from Admissions, and examination entry and / or registration fees.
