INTRODUCTION
This industry recognised qualification covers the day to day skills required for working with horses in the equine sector. All the work covered by the qualification will be carried out under supervision. This is reflected in the unit titles that describe ‘assisting with’, specific tasks and functions. The qualification will provide a good grounding in horse care.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience are required for candidates undertaking this NVQ , however candidates will need adequate literacy and numeracy skills. 


COURSE CONTENT
Core Units:
Unit 101       Assist with the care of the horses
Unit 102      Assist with cleaning the stable and yard
Unit 103      Assist with putting on, taking off and cleaning, equipment
Unit 104      Assist with handling horses
Unit 105      Maintain health, safety and good working relations
 
Additionally accredited unit:
UNIT 106 Ride horses in an enclosed area

 

ASSESSMENT
The qualification is assessed by continual work based assessment with supporting related underpinning knowledge to confirm understanding, alongside a completion of a portfolio.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
These qualifications are an ideal base for employment and progression within the Horse Industry.

 

 
 

Course Fees

Full-time students do not pay course or examination entry fees, except in some cases when there are examination re-sits. Part-time students pay course fees, which are displayed in College publications or are obtainable from Admissions, and examination entry and / or registration fees.
